Stainless Barrel Rem 700 "Varmint"?

Someone locally has one for sale in 6mm Remington; early-1967 vintage (allegedly went to CM later that year to cut costs). Just wondering if this sounds correct to Rem. experts, and what would the twist rate be? (slow rate wouldn't be a deal-breaker), but price might be - wants offers.

Probably a 1:14 twist, from the days when it was considered to be a varmint rifle.

Even varmint barrels are rifled for deer bullets.
Current 'normal' twist is 1 in 9. Remington started using that twist for M700's in 1963.
Always best to check it yourself to be sure. Solvented patch on your cleaning rod and just into the chamber from that end. Put a dot with a felt marker on top of the rod at the handle end and the chamber end. Push the patch through the barrel for one complete turn of the handle end dot and mark the chamber end again. Distance between the dots is your twist. Easier to do than type.

If it is marked 6mm Remington, it likely has a 1:10" twist. Rifles marked 244 Remington have the slower twist.

According to Cartridges Of The World the 244 Rem had a 1:12 twist.
6mm Rem has a 1:9.
