Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum 66-1
I saw an old forum post but seemed as though no one has been there in over a year about this. So I'm looking for some help. I have an old .357 revolver. I believe it is a model 66-1 and has a serial number 39k2979. From what I understand it was a police issue firearm. This one is located in GA.
I would like to know what it's value is and what I could expect to sell it for and any other information on it would be great. I included a picture in the other post here is the link. http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=373122 SSgt Jeremy Foster |

The serial number dates it to 1978/79 which would make it a 66-1.
Hard to tell the condition from the photo but $400 to $450 is about the going rate in a private sale. Selling to a gunshop/dealer you'd get about $100 to $150 less. Jim |

Thanks Jim. Yeah it's my mother's she has from her late boyfriend. I'm trying to make her a fair offer. What should I offer her?

If that Model 66-1 is in good mechanical shape, does not have a deep flame cut in the stopstrap just above the barrel, then $400-$425 is a fair price and $450 would be right if the external appearance is very good - without serious scratches, dings, scrapes, etc.

The model 66's are popular up here ...but condition is everything on a gun.
I'm seeing prices lately, on good clean guns, between $ 450 - $ 550 around here. |

K-Frame magnums have inflated considerably in the past few years. In my area, a 4" M66 in good shape would run anywhere from $400-600 depending on the seller. However, the 66-1 has both the pinned barrel and recessed (counterbored) chambers which, in my area, would add a $50-100 premium.

For a 4" -1 in excellent mechanical condition, for my area I'd say $425 or so would be a fair price for both of you.
I assume it is a 4", I can't pull up the link with the picture. |
