lyman super target scope

Hi all:

I was given a target rifle in 22-250 single shot 1909 peru mauser . It has a lyman super target spot 15x w/lens caps. I have been told the scope may be worth a few bucks. The rifle has a heavy barrel and nice stock. I cannot find any markings that may I.D the builder. Any suggestions?

More than a few bucks. A quick check of the sales sites shows Super Targetspot scopes at $450 and up. Not as much as a Unertl but still a fine and rather valuable glass.

If the rifle is not marked for the maker, then you do not know the maker and will not likely find out. Back in the day, there were any number of shops building varmint rifles on surplus actions and a lot of them did not bother to apply a trademark. I know a guy who did a lot of that, but I bet he put his name on his work; he even name stamps his tools. An unmarked sporterizing job is worth only what it is worth to shoot.

Be careful with ammo and loads. If built before 1965 (and maybe for a while after) it is not a .22-250 Remington and may not be to current specifications.

lyman super target scope

Hi Jim

Thanks for comments. The barrel is stamped 22-250 thats all.Maybe if

I remove the stock there might be a name somewhere? I fired a box of

Rem. 22-250's through it and it shot fine. What can go wrong, strong

Mauser action and bull barrel? I am a newcomer to this kind of weapon,

although I am 70 years young I dont' know it all yet. I don't want it

blowing up in my face.Tell me more
