mauser 98 bolt action rifle 30.06 low velocity target loads

My local gun range is an indoor gun range best suited for handguns.
We can shoot low velocity rifles there but nothing powerfull.
Since i have to drive much further away for a range were a can shoot 30.06 i would like to reload a 30.06 to a velocity near the velocity of a .375m.

Just for fun, paper target, maximum range 50 yards

Is that possible?
What powders should i go with?
Enyone else who has done that and has some load data?

Ok.

Browsing arround the forum found something about trail boss.

13,5 grains and a 150 grain bullet should be a good starting point.

I like using Red Dot for low velocity ammo in both 308 Win and 30-06.

Trail boss is a good choice. I think the manufacturer even has a guide for light load development.

You may even consider light bullets. If they allow coated bullets, there are actually a lot more choices available.

"...something about Trail Boss..." Yep. Hodgdon shows a 150 grain bullet out of a 24" barrel starts at 1,061 FPS to 1,477 FPS. Well under some but not all .357 Mag jacketed 158 grain loads.

The guide, or at least the original form of it, just said to fill the case anywhere from 70-100% with Trail Boss, but don't compress it. That applied to all rifle cartridge and bullet combinations. Lots of people like it a great deal.

C.E. Harris' The Load of 13 gr Red Dot and about any usual .30 bullet, cast or jacketed.

I used 12.5 gr of 700X because that was what I had on hand.

The old Springfield guard cartridge was 9 gr Bullseye and the regular 150 gr bullet.

I have used loads as little as 7.0 grains of Red Dot with 150 gr cast bullet but I keep jacketed loads from 10.0 to 13.0 grains. Good rabbit and squirrel loads.

Lyman #311291, 180 gr. +/- depending on alloy. 25.0 gr. 4895 (either one) any brass and Winchester WLR primer. Bullet is seated so it slightly engages the rifling. Never have chronographed the load but good for 1.5 to 2.0" at 100 yards. Can't be moving too fast as when shot at the 300 meter pigs, it takes a while to get. Hit the pig in the top 25 % and it will reluctantly topple over. With 5.0 gr. of Unique, a 120 gr. cast bullet shoots quite well. I shoot a lot of cast in some of my rifles. Good practice loads and inexpensive, IE cheap.

I finally received the dies i ordered and loaded this:

Lapua .308/167 Scenar
12 grains trailboss
COL 83,5 mm 3.287

Accuracy seems good (hard to tell cause my eyesight is not good enough for the original sights)
I will need to increase the load a bit (i used the 70 % rule of the powder company as a start)

Two concerns with this sort of loading: double charge of powder and bullet stuck in bore.
Either will likely ruin your rifle and maybe your life.
