Knife question

i know this is a gun forum, but everyone who loves guns loves knives too, right?!?!?
if you have a gun you probably have a knife.

anyway i just bought a puma knife
just wondering if anyone has experience with puma knives......

i got the puma new hunter stag.
should be here next week or so.
i got a good deal, just wondering about puma's reputation i guess.
any info appreciated, thanks to all who answer!

I'll bite,

I've never heard of Puma and can't recall seeing them in the major stores like Academy or Cabelas.

I usually stick to known good brands like Gerber, Kershaw, Outdoor Edge...

BTW, Outdoor Edge has some of the best knives using some of the best steel from Japan...My skinning knife really is shaving sharp and doesn't take much to get the edge back if it gets dulled from a lot of skinning...

Puma is a pretty well-known maker. They are a very old German company and I believe most of their knives are made in Germany, unless they have moved production of their less expensive models to China.

It should be a very good knife.

I bought my first Puma in 1965 in the UK a "White Hunter". I'd still have it if a friend hadn't "borrowed it permanently"

I finally found a replacement a couple of years back when the prices dropped as I wasn't willing to pay the crazy prices being asked at the time (over $200):barf:
They are still made in Soligen, Germany & every one is individually checked before sale. If you look on the back of the blade directly opposite the label you should see a small dimple in the blade material rather like a pinprick mark. That's where the tester checked the Rockwell hardness of your individual blade. Even though it is stainless which usually won't keep an edge for beans this type of stainless does.
Its the best knife I ever owned, & I will absolutely not go in the countryside without mine.

i paid 100 bucks for the puma "new hunter" heard it was a euro release only.
anyway the white hunters are more than 300 bucks now i think.

i'll keep you guys updated when it gets here.
let you know what i've got quality-wise etc.

i'm excited because i've never heard a bad thing about any puma knife!

Like you I paid $100.00 for mine. The Mrs. thought I had lost my mind as I whipped out the cash so fast I sprained my wrist. She was moaning about the "100 dollar knife" for so long I had to buy her a set of Soligen kitchen knives to shut her up.

I'd have to agree with this or at least that has been my experience. Pumas are fine knives and very collectable. Though the years, I have picked up some of their folders and fixed blade hunters. I currently have two White Hunters and one Hunter's pal. If you have simular tastes in guns as you do in knives, then you are doing well. ......

I have some fine knives. But, when hunting I use $35.00 Schrade/Old Timers.
It is a fact that expensive knives get lost just as easily as cheap ones.
I still can't fathom how my wife lost the Western Cutlery knife I bought her that had a blaze orange handle.
