Short Cut SC Powder Question
I have never used the short cut SC version of some of my favorite powders and wandered if any of you felt that you needed to lower the charge due to using SC powder instead of the normal long kernels? Thanks.

If you are using a manual and weighing out your charge it doesn't matter if it is short or long cut. It meters better which was the whole reason for chopping it shorter.
Just make sure you follow the manual.

On H4198, I went to the SC version, simply because it metered better than the original. There was no difference in the amount I used, other than it metered much more consistently, from throw to throw.

Yes, the burning rates can differ.
I did the 'direct replacement' thing long ago with H4831 and H4831SC. When I used the SC version, I got some real impressive velocities and some really wide primer pockets. No damage to me or rifle - Thank You, Lord.
When ever starting with a 'new' can or lot of powder, start from the bottom and work up. It is not so much the 'SC' that makes the difference, it's the change in powder lot.

I chronographed both H-4831 & H-4831SC in a Ruger #1A and couldn't tell the difference with the same charge
