Question on operation of semi-auto
Hi all,
I'm not very experienced with auto shotguns but I have one, a CZ 712, and also a question on one of the controls. On the right of the receiver I have a big button that releases the bolt (easy enuff), but my question is what is the purpose of the small button located at the rear of the shell lifter. I know it disables the lifter but haven't quite figured out why it is designed that way? Thanks in advance Last edited by Striker1; February 23, 2013 at 11:16 PM. |

That model, per the CZ website, has the bolt release button on the tight side, not the left, so I am confused. If you are talking about the button just in front of the trigger guard inside the loading area, it should act like the one on the Beretta and that allows the bolt to stay open after the least shot
https://czusamedia.s3.amazonaws.com/...hotguns_en.pdf page 27, pic 3- is that what you are talking about? |

I'm not familiar with that particular gun, but it sounds like it can be used as a magazine cutoff. Lets say you are duck hunting, a goose flys nearby and you want to eject the load of #4's in your chamber and load a shell loaded with BB's. Hitting this button will allow you to eject the chambered round without another shell coming out of the magazine. You can now load the desired shell directly into the chamber.

IF it is a copy of the Beretta, the mag cutoff will be on the left side of the receiver.
The button, (at least on the Beretta), is used to hold the bolt open when shooting singles and you are dropping the round in the chamber, not the mag tube. Whether this is the same with the CZ can be easily determined next time out shooting |

The left side of the receiver is slick with no controls. In order for the bolt to hold open when pulled to the rear, the button within the lifter must first be depressed. This locks the lifter in the down position.
Whether it is a copy of a Beretta I don't know. |

I may be mistaken; but I seem to remember reading some time ago, the button is because of a requirement by the Italian government.
