Changing sights on Kimber
Are the dove tail cuts in a Kimber slide, a standard cut or Kimber cut?
I intend to put Novaks or Hienies on it This does not look like a job for a smith, does anyone have any experience with doing this swap? Waterdog |

I really don't know what their standard dovetail is. I've never been asked to simply replace a rear sight in the existing dovetail. I do know that a couple of sights by both Heinie and Novak specifically fit the Kimber d'tail so I would assume that it is different from a standard 1911. George

Kimber's dovetail is different than Colt, Wilson, Les Baer, etc...
But, Novak, Wilson, Heinie all offer thier sights for the Kimber cut. |

Waterdog,
Kimber dovetails are the same as CMC (Chip McCormick), but are much much tighter. The most difficult steps will be removing the old sights. If you are the least bit hesitant about mounting the slide in a vise (index card on each side or leather) and using heavy hammer and punch, send it to Richard Heinie and he will do it for you. MMC also will install their adjustable sights for free, you just pay for the parts. If you want to see Heinie Straight 8 Slant Pro sights on a CMC (looks just like a Kimber) check out the pics at: http://community.webshots.com/user/g2130 View album Custom 1911 or any of the others for different firearms. |
