Just out of curiosity, how old do you think she was? From the picture I can see she has had at least one litter of piglets.

Was she alone or in a herd?

How many piglets can a wild pig have? If you guys did not hunt these things, what is their life expectancy in the wild?

Hunting the wild pigs is something I would love to do. I have seen the damage a pig can do and think a lot more of them need to be taken. Do you guys consider them a pain in the butt like us with coyotes consider them a pain in the butt?

I'v never went and shot one my self, but my cosin thinks we should go to Ok. next month and help out a friend of his. Looks like a good way to put some pork in the freezer.

This is a nice one you got. Just the size I would try for myself. Looks tasty.

If the OP has the skull I can steer him to a site that will show images of teeth from hogs of known age. Unlike many other animals, the aging of hogs is done by counting molers... they add molers as they age and there jaw length increases.

There have been many 5-6+ year old feral hogs killed.

They can have litters of up to 8 but 6 is more common. The most common numbers of piglets I see runnin' with a sow is 4 with 3 coming in a close second.

The piglets can and do readily nurse from sows that are not their mother. Orphaned sucklers will be taken in by other sows of the herd.

Yes they are a pain in the butt to those who know their eco and $$$ damages. Fun pita for those who hunt them too.

I have said it before and I am going to say it again. I think you guys who hunt hogs are nutz! And they are made out of brass!

I swear if I am ever in Florida I am going to look up Brent and get him and Junior to take me on a hog hunt. I am going to stand back and hold the leashes

I have seen what an upset domestic pig will do when it is angry. I am just glad that there are folks like you guys who keep these things in check. The damage they do to crops is unbelievable and the havoc they cause with wildlife is devastating.

When my son was in scouts in Central Fl. we camped on an Opthalmologists ranch and came upon tracts in the woods that were from 6 to 20 ft wide and ran for several yards that looked like freshly plowed earth, all done by feral pigs. My friends in Louisiana kidded me, when I came out of the woods with 30 to 50 lb pigs, until one of them bagged a large boar, cleaning was a real chore, hide like a croc and smell really bad, they aim for piglets now, better eating too.

Went on my first hunt monday, State land. We hand to flush them like rabbits. We got with in 10 feet of them and they take off. You have about 3 - 4 seconds to shoot. Nothing like what I read about out here. First bullet slug second buckshot.

Never got a shot.

I generally don't try to flush them out, I try to sneak up on them, and it works pretty well really..............

Except for last night. I was trying to sneak around a few when I hear a deep growl behind me, ends up I got caught between about 10 hogs and a mountain lion, and it was nearing pitch black with no moon visible, so I decided to sit that one out. Flushing them out or trying to sneak up on them though, either one can be very dangerous. But have a big rifle, bring a pistol or a friend, and you'll be fine. I've never even seen it done with dogs, so I have no idea about that. I'd be too scared to lose one I think, I've never seen less than 7 or 8 hogs at a time, and at most it can be 30 or 35.

Nice job with that .40!

My selfish side wishes we had more hogs around here.
