Ammo Cans

Just picked up 4 more 2-can sets from Costco. Darn good price, $15.99 for 2 ammo cans, a 50cal and 30cal can combo.
The coupon started on 8/31 and I don't remember when it ends but usually lasts 3 or 4 weeks or until they're all gone.

Dame! I have a hard time thinking that $15.99 for a 50cal & a 30 cal is a good deal. Maybe for today it is? Was not all that long ago that you could get three 50cal ammo can's for $10.00/or three 20cal ammo can's for $6.00 milsurp all day long at the guns shows. Can's where like new. I always came back with cans. I have everything in them Ammo, gun cleaning tools, gun cleaning solvents, oils, gun parts, cleaning kits, patches battery's,etc. Any milsurp ammo I got in that spam can I just opened it up & put it in a 50cal can. I even have one in the truck with some tools in it. You just got to love them cans. I really like the 50cal"fat" cans. That's where I like to put my gun cleaning stuff in. I have not been to a gun show in a few years so I guess you can't get them there anymore?

Regretfully I missed the recent local gun show so I can't comment on the current prices there but I've been buying them from surplus stores here and in Az for a few years and I've never seen your prices. The last time I got some they were anywhere from $14-16 each for a 50 cal can.
WallyWorld has them for $16.99 each. Granted these are new repros but they still work.

Aren't the cans from Costco made of plastic?

Nope. Metal cans painted the oh so lovely drab green that we're so fond of.
WallyWorld on the other hand carries both metal and plastic cans.

The cheapest I've been able to find for genuine GI 50 cal cans is at Midway USA. I bought a couple of the grade III cans for $7.98 each. They are regular $9.99, but that was my birthday price.

They were actually more like grade I condition. No dings or dents. Tiny bit of surface rust.

Not sure, but I think the ones Costco and Academy sell are made in China.

Even their tier III cans are about the same as the new ones from costco after shipping.

I'm sure they're made somewhere overseas but they look like they're pretty good quality and the seals so seal so it's all good to me.
Definitely not military grade but still workable.

I was just reading in the newspaper that the Marines are looking to ditch their ammo cans for something lighter. they feel they need something to make resupply in the field easier than humping the heavy steel cans. Even looking at drones to resupply. But it's unknown how much weight one can carry. Also looking at an alternative to brass.
