Took it to the range yesterday. Shot like a champ. Absolutely no sniffles. I was able to clang many a steel target at 40 and 50 yards with it. The only thing was it took me a few magazines to settle in with it. The past few years I've been shooting revolvers and Glocks. I used to own a couple Sigs, but they're gone. I've gotten used to how the Glock design sits low in the hand. I'd forgotten how the older style autos have a higher bore axis and therefore more muzzle flip. But after a few mags I settled in and got to work. Very easy shooting gun. That all-steel frame sucks up the recoil.

Funny how you get used to one system and forget about the idiosyncrasies of others.

I am not familiar with the 745. Does the trigger normally stay that far back, with the hammer down? It looks like an SA position to me.

The 745 is SAO. Like the majority of locked breach pistols that have been/are in production the 745 is a variant of the Hi-Power in terms of the locked breach action. It’s more true to the Hi-Power in that it uses a locking lug at the top of the barrel unlike Sig’s, Glock’s, SA XD’s and others using the ejection port.

My observation has been the pistols that have the locking lug at the top of the barrel don’t suffer from locking block related failures like those using the ejection port. My guess is the lug, because of its location, causes more of a cushioned delay of unlocking because of the flex of the barrel.

True, but I'd like to add 2 minor footnotes:

Unlike conventional S&W metal-frame TDA pistols, the slide lever only acts as a hammer-blocking safety, not as a decocker. (This is also true of the other SAO TDAs.)
Rather than the barrel being cammed downwards by the takedown lever as with the Hi-Power, the barrel and slide of the Model 745 disengage when shoulders in the frame contact ramp-shaped recesses under the barrel. Otherwise it is similar.
