Ford,

Yes, it's been brought up before.
I asked about two months ago, and Rich politely informed me that this was not going to be an option at TFL. I respect his decision.
The 'standards' here are quite a bit higher than at other forums. And rightly so.
And we've got enough 'growing pains' as it is.
Besides, I sure don't want Rich to take his ball and go home.
I like it here.

All the best...

Here's a link to foxfire's thread. It contains links to a few chats that are currently setup.

There are freebie software proggies to set your own up. Parachat is one. Set one up and attract folks.

HS (one of the Boys from Oz) has one, generally active on Sat morning...early.
Search key "Saturday morning chat" in Gen'l forum.

TFL is not going to officially set up a chat room. Staff work gratis.

Thank you for your replies. Chat rooms often turn into well to put it frankly, a bunch of knuckleheads that end up getting way off the subject. I guess that wasnt too frank. Anyway. Maybe I will look into setting one up and try to attract members of TFL because most of us seem like decent folk. Or if there is a current chat that These members frequent. I have just found that chats are nice if you have a quick question. Maybe there is a way to keep them some what exclusive.

You guys run a great show. Thank you!

Believe it or not, Ford, between my wife and I we currently monitor/host/moderate five seperate registered chatrooms. (and you guys thought that I live here at TFL) These rooms are quite easy to register and set up, all of ours are provided free of charge, without any ad banners. We're also running several different chat software programs. You can email me if you want some of the specifics, but I'll warn you now. This type of venture can take up a lot of your time, and the participants can easily get way out of control. (And most of ours are fun-loving garden people. We've never had any problem with profanity, pornography, or flame wars.) We've had to close several chats down completely, only giving a forwarding address to a well known few. I'm sure that some of the regulars at TFL would be a hoot in chat, but someone with a host key has to monitor the things all of the time. I'm on the west coast, most everyone on the net is asleep by the time wifey turns the machine over to me, so I'm not a good candidate to take on the project.
