380 and HPs
I just purchased an LCP in 380 (if there is anything else for and LCP). It shot fmj fair but POI was very low to sight picture. I shot Blazer brass 380. I reload a lot and have 380 dies and was planning on reloading 90-95 grain Hornady XTs HPs but I am not real sure if the LCP will feed HPs successfully. I own a government model 1911 clone that jams HPs ever time, regardless of feed ramp modifications. I gave up trying and only reload fmjs for that specific pistol . Any advice would be appreciated! I haven't run any reloads in my LCP, but it has functioned perfectly with every factory round I have put in it. Winchester white bof fmj flat nose, Remington fmj. Hornady Critical defense. Remimgton Golden Saber. Winchester PDX1. My personal choice after a lot of research including viewong many ballistic gell tests, Speer Gold Dot.
For a SD, personal carry round I prefer good quality factory ammo

I have a box of HPs that hand cycle just fine in my LCP. Never even shot the thing!

My defense load in both my LCPs is the Hornady American Gunner load. It’s the 90 grain XTP hollow point. My LCP Custom has run it perfectly, my old Gen One LCP had one ftf in 100 rounds. Both have also run the Aguila HP load with no malfunctions.

My LCP shoots anything I put in it. Good all a round pocket pistol.
What make is your 1911 clone? My SR 1911 did the same thing. Had to return it, all's well now. |

1911 clone is an old LLama double stack 45. Local smith, silver-sod. ramp, and polished ramp, but the double stacked mags would force HP ammo to nose dive. I wasted over 100$ back around 2000 on retro-fitting Llama to shoot 185 HP (most accurate) but nothing worked. I tried buying new mags., but LLama went out of business and were not very popular. I couldn't find any. For now, Llama shoots 230 FMJ w/o any problems. It just will not shoot any HP because mags cause bullets to nose dive slightly before going to battery. The HP lips catch and will not allow round to continue to feed.

All of my LCP's have shot hollow point with no problem. My current one is retired, and I now shoot the Pico's. My favorite ammo is PrecisionONE Plus P. I like the ballistics, and the best accuracy of all the ammo I have tested. I buy it in the bulk 250 rd. box.

Both my old 1st gen LCP and current LCP Custom function flawlessly with xtp's. I have used both the Hornady Custom and the American Gunner 90gr loading with zero issues.

My LCP has ate everything I've ran through it, HP or FMJ. Reloads however are the one thing that I've never put in it.

Using HP's is OK if they work, but the truth is that in spite of a lot of hype by bullet makers, no small pistol with a short barrel is going to get enough velocity for worthwhile expansion. Nor does expansion alone provide a magic solution if the bullet is not in a critical area. You might be better off working to make sure you can put the bullets where they will be most effective rather than deluding yourself that some magic bullet will somehow make up for lack of training and practice..

I had a Llama 1911 many years ago. It was a single stack and worked with standard 1911 mags. It was an okay gun. If your shoots 230 ball ammo that's what I would shoot. I would not hesitate to carry 230 gr ball ammo for SD. It has stopped fights for over a 100 years. Happy New years
