Llama .380

What do you think about a pistol Llama .380?
Where can I get more information about this pistol? Is it a good pistol?
Which is better a Bersa or a LLama?

The llama company is no longer around.As far as their 380 goes,its probably the only gun that was liked.There is 2 versions the older ones are just like a mini 1911 barrel link and all.The newer ones were turned into direct blowback style.They are actually nice little guns.The wife has one and loves it.

Their metalurgy and quality control wasn't always the best. Still, on average they were okay.

They were absorbed by someone else and don't exist anymore. Replacement parts will be a real problem. Magazines are only found in the 'used parts' dealers and so forth.

All that aside, I had one of the locked breech .380s long ago. It was a pretty decent pistol. It was a good size and shot as good or better than other pocket .380s.

I had a llama. It was reliable but not accurate at all. My dad owns a Bersa thunder .380. It is far superior to the llama.

My dad has the one that looks like a mini-1911. Probably due to the locked breech action, it is one of the most pleasant-shooting small semiauto's out there. It does not have the "sting" recoil feel of blowback .380's.

I have not shot it enough or at long enough ranges to get a sense of its accuracy. My sense is that it is accurate enough for defense use. Probably not a good choice for competitive target shooting though

Dad's is perfectly reliable.

I have an old IIIa and a new-ish Micro-max, both .380. The IIIa is actually a really nice little gun. Aside form the external extractor, it truly is a ~ 2/3 scale 1911. The finish is nice and it shoots well. The MIcromax also works fine, but the fit and finish isn't nearly as good as the IIIa. Recoil is also harsher with the Micromax, as it is blowback instead of short recoil.

All in all, though, Llama always made decent knock-around pistols, if you don't mind them being a little rough. The price was alwyas decent. I picked up a couple of Max-1 .45's for $450 brand new a few years ago. They both shoot fine.

I bought a Llama .380 in the Used section at Cabelas today.
Gorgeous little gun, unfired, for $199 (less the $75 Grand Opening gift card).
I stumbled onto this thread looking for more info on it.

It field-strips just like a 1911, internals are identical, except for the external extractor.
This thing is so nice I am hesitant to fire it. I sure would like to find out when it was built. Ser# is 135XXX. No model number on it.

This is the 2nd Llama I own, probably won't be the last.
