I'm not a single-action guy...but...

I guess I'll make an exception for this one. I saw it at my LGS a few days ago, had them put it on "hold" for me while I checked it out. I called back the next day and told them I wasn't going to get it, put it back on the shelf. When I told my wife she told me she wasn't going to listen to me whine and cry about how I should have bought that gun...now go get it.

So I did.

A USFA, SAA, in 45 Colt, with a 4 5/8" barrel. I knew these were supposed to be one of the finest single-action revolvers made "back in the day." I thought they wanted top dollar for it ($1300) but I've since learned that actually is a pretty good price for one of these. Especially in what appears to be unfired outside the factory, with box, papers, cloth bag, the works condition. That certainly doesn't happen to me every day. I was even able to get a 50 round box of 45 Colt ammo at the same time, for less than the cost of the gun.

So without further ado, welcome the newest member of my safe family...

The little envelope with the spent cartridge in the box says April of 2006. I have since verified that it is an all American made one (apparently they used some Uberti parts earlier).

And yes. I do plan to shoot it. Someone will ask.

That's a great find.

I don't remember the exact date, but I suspect that 2006 was not very long before USFA went off the rails and then folded.

Uhhhh I see you whining and crying that you actually bought the thing. I'll be happy to give you a 10% premium over your cost. Yeah, I'm a giver!!!

Seriously, a very nice SAA there. I'd have jumped all over that gun. Great score!!!

Very nice. USFA had a good reputation at the time. Looks like it will be a good shoot'n iron for you...

That thing is pretty.

I am also not a single action guy, but I do like Colts and ever since I traded off my Colt FSS a few years back I have been looking for another to replace it. A couple of weeks ago I stumbled onto a 1961 vintage .45 Colt SAA for a smoking deal (significantly under a grand) and I just couldn't pass it up. It looked like it was used as a cowboy action shooters gun and has enough finish wear so that I have no problem shooting it.

That is one beautiful pistol. I don't have a SAA, but have always wanted one. That picture just makes me want one even more.

Excellent find and a great price. It is a 4 3/4" barrel. Ruger Vaquero's are 4 5/8". You will get years of pleasure shooting it. If you have never owned a SAA when you bring it to half cock to load, always take it to full cock before lowering the hammer. You will avoid making a drag line on the cylinder if you always take it to full cock before lowering the hammer.

I would have bought it in a heart beat.

Good grief. We went to dinner at my old girlfriends house just last night.

What more could she want?
