Weaver Classic V-Series 1-3

They have this scope on sale at Midway. Are they pretty good? I'm not looking for world-class glass. It will be hung on a handi-rifle. I just want it to be dependable. It will be used for thick timber elk hunting this fall.

Haven't used that model. I have a Weaver K4(Fixed Power 4X) on my .308 that is excellent.

I have a V3 on my 45-70 and I like it. I haven't had it long but It's held up to the 45-70 recoil so far. I love the OLD Weaver scopes, this is my first new model and like I said, I like it. For the same price though I think you may consider a 2-7x. But maybe not. My 45-70's major role will be a short range elk gun. I love getting there with the elk in the thick stuff!

I stand corrected; Midway just jacked up their prices. The V3 2 days ago was the same price as the V7, which was ~$150. Now they want $175. I know this 'cause I was gonna buy one. Instead I traded for a V7, it's in the mail. I'd shop around before Midway maybe.

I tried one; worked fine. I was able to get just under one MOA groups with it. Fine for deer hunting, but I swapped for a scope more suited for small critters at longer distances.

That's exactly what it will go on, huntinaz. I have a handi in .45-70. Thanks for the input. Mentioning the caliber would have helped, i suppose.

The Nitrex TR1 1.5-5X32 is a discontinued, higher level Weaver that costs less than the V-3. Natchezss has them.

I love weaver scopes new and old. I have a 4.75 fixed Grand Slam on my .300 Savage and had a K6 fixed on a Savage 110 in .270 winchester years ago, love them both !! I could cover a full magazine with a quarter @ 100 yds with that 270 ! Nice scope. I will put a K6 on my 7x57 mauser when I'm done rebuilding it!

I've replaced scopes on seven rifles with Weavers. Excellent quality for the price.
