Loctite for Sight Installation

Well, I decided to raise my level a bit and searched application charts for the ideal loctite for dovtails. To me, 609 looks the best. Dawson Precision reccomends 620, but I don't like the higher temp for removal.

What do you use?

For screws, I would use a blue threadlocker.

Totally agree 242 for threads. I'm posting the 609 for dovetails. It is a better match for application. It might require a soldering iron to remove.

Another key point is we might all be better served mounting the front with loctite and test firing the rear before loctite is applied. Measuring your final dovtail postion with calipers will allow you to put it back in the same spot.

I have kept small tubes of Loctite Red in my shooting boxes for almost 50 years. It has saved the day many times. I use it for anything I want to stay in place. And, yes, it is removable without heat, I have never used heat.

609 is quite a bit stronger than 242. I have been using 609 or its predecessor since the 70's.

I just bought Meprolights and they said use 609. I agree it is stronger, but that is good since I fit night sights a bit looser to keep from breaking the tritium vials. I still beat sights in since the pusher I bought is frustrating me.
