Shotgun barrel steel?

Hi ok so I was wanting to do a project and make my own shotgun barrel and make it choked in between a mod and a full and call it my fod barrel.. The trouble I am having is deciding the grade of steel I want to go with the cheapest I can get.. Thanks for the input..

Why not just buy an improved modified choke?

If you are looking for cheap, just use aluminum foil.

If you are looking for good durable steel, uses 4140. But it's not cheap. You could probably buy a factory barrel for less than you will pay for seamless annealed 4140 tubing and shipping.

And you still need to build it up to lock into the receiver.

Just because you can build something, does not always make it worth the expense.

Mass production works pretty well at reducing costs per unit.
