.41 long Colt

Can I shoot .41 LC in my S&W mod 57 .41 Mag?

If not, anyone have a reduced load recipe? My indoor range does mnot, allow any mags to be fired.

No, I certainly wouldn't attempt it because the bullet diameters are different.
The .41 LC has a bullet diameter of about .386", but the hollow base expands to a little over .40 caliber when the cartridge is fired. Even if it were possible, accuracy would probably be lousy.

Get a big ole jug of Unique and about 500 to 1000 lead SWC and put about 7.5 to 8 grains of powder in them and a booooolet. Happy shootin'.

Edit to say this is for the Magnum not the LC

Absolutely NOT.

.41 Magnum has a case head diameter of .434.

.41 Long Colt has a case head diameter of .405.

The Long Colt cases will split.

Google a cartridge called the ".41 Special."

There's really no such cartridge (as recognized by SAAMI), it's more a state of mind by people trying to develop milder loads for their .41 Mags.

Lots of people have published loading information using both full-length .41 Mag cases as well as shortened cases.

Just make sure you know which case length the author is using before you start trying his loads.

For a milder load in the .41 Mag try some Trail Boss. I use it in my RBH in .41 Mag. I shoot a lot of them when shooting steel knock down targets with my home cast 210 grain LSWC. It is also very clean burning. It gives a nice pleasant shooting round, and good casefill.
