Unusual small cal. BP rifle

A friend of mine asked that I look a BP rifle she had for a while as a wall hanger to see if it was shootable. It is a very small caliber rifle. A .22 bullet will not fit in the barrel but a .177 bb will. Thought maybe this was an unfinished rifle as I cannot find any writing on the barrel. Didnt clean the barrel to see if there was rifleing but it is clear and can see smoke when a percussion cap is fired through it. Does anyone have information on a bp cal. of this size?

I'm just taking a stab in the dark here, but I wonder if it's a parlor gun. They were around before air guns and used a percussion cap as the propellant.

Try a Google search on "parlor gun" and see what you find.

Thanks, I will try that search. Makes sense to me. This had come to mind already so I droped a bb down the barrel and shot a percussion cap off. The first bb exited the barrel but didnt go far. The next on didnt exit. It was just a quick experiment on my part. Thanks for the information!

Umm I dunno. Lewis and Clark carried an air gun.
