I see them frequently at gun shows. And the small gunsmith shop I use has a good selection of No.4 Savages. Price has gone thru the roof tho.

I hear you! I never moved on the No. 1 Mk. 3 I always wanted figuring they'd always be around for about $150. Oops.

I checked the websites you listed but the prices were all a little high. I should have bought that one at Big-5 when I saw it.

Those No.4's and newer models are okay, but what ya really want is the original LE.

It was 180 dollars with a bayonet and everything. MK-III* mark-1.
I was looking for a Mosin Nagant, the Enfield was not on my radar yet. When I decided I wanted one it was gone. |

In my opinion a no. 1 mk III has a smoother action than a no. 4 mk I

My 1943 BSA No. 4 Mark I* has a smoother action than my 1948 Ishapore No. 1 Mk. III which has a smoother action than my 1946 Savage No 4. Mk 1*. And I find the feel of the BSA to be superior also.

I say hit the gunshows so that you have a choice of them to pick thru. There are not the large numbers of nice ones anymore but if you are lucky you might find a half dozen decent ones and you should forget the details if you want a shooter, get the best condition especially borewise. I myself am too old to mess around with buying crappy surps hoping to "fix them up". If I can afford it, I get something nice or nothing at all. Prices are up but that is just typical.

There's one in Austin Texas that I'll be picking up early this coming week. SOG has some listed, but call them, because when I ordered one they were out. Worth a try.

Current importation?
I haven't seen much except for the occasional spurt of Long Branch/Savage or Ishy Enfields in importer's ads in a while, but you never know what's going to pop over the horizon next. If you don't want an Ishy .308 or a No.4Mk.I*, you're reduced to online auctions or the gun show crawl until the next batch of imports gets dug out of a warehouse somewhere. BEWARE: TN Guns and a couple of other companies got stuck with a bunch of P.O.S. Khyber Pass guns in the last few years! If anything looks hinky about your prospective purchase, such as a backwards stamping or incorrect crown or whatnot, walk on by. I got suckered by a Khyber "1916 EИΓІΞГD" because I wanted it to be true so badly... |

Enfield for sale
I have a No1 Mk3 which I customized. It has had 30 rounds through it. I bought it from a fellow employee/friend who bought it from the dealer when it was imported. Bore is 98%+. Function is smooth.
I'm asking $400 o.b.o. within reason. I'll either sell it or consider trade if you're interested.

Thats sportered No1 MKIII is worth about $100 at best ... if it was left original in full wood and milspec it might be worth $300-$400 depending on condition, year and whether it was matching or not.
Something for people who buy Milsurps in the future to consider is that their prices have gone up and altering them will only lose you money in the end. They are worth more original than they will ever be cut up. Tiki.
