New member needing help. Go figure..

I've been reading this thread for some time and took the plunge into reloading for my Tikka T-3 lite 308. Not new to shooting just reloading. I want to use 165gr Hornady SST for whitetail and bear, can go heavier if needed for bear, here in VA and a 110gr, not specific manuf. yet, for coyotes and such. Need any info reference to loads, books, blogs, etc. Just want hunting accuracy and a lot of energy at point of impact. Yardage will likely be 100 yards or less, 250 yards absolute max for deer. Thanks

Tony

Welcome to TFL
You should post this in the 'Handloading/Reloading' forum...
Good luck

Welcome Tony,
I'm just gonna echo what you will be told over and over. Your rifle is specific in its' likes and dislikes, you just don't know it yet. Get a decent reloading set up and several manuals. I particularly like the caliber specific mini manuals. Start with midrange or lower range loads and work up to a point that you have become satisfied with the results. I don't load for the .308 but do have two T3's that I love. Mine are 30/06 and 300wm. I shoot 150grs for the 06 and 165's for the 300. Don't get caught in the trap that faster is always better. I have all of my rifles running at around 3000fps but base my results in accuracy.
Good luck

Thanks Elkman06

I have been shooting Federal Power-Shok 150s and Hornady 150s. I purchased a Lee Anniversary press kit to get into this for minimum $. The kit won't be here for a couple of weeks. Only one book so far (coming with kit) but I will likey spend more on the books than the kit. I have an addiction to firearms and I hope this will keep me busy. Does anyone have the formula for # guns = happy marriage vs. # guns = loss of 50% assets? Bullets are easier to hide in the house anyway.

I reload for my M1A(308) using a 168gr bullet with 42 grains of H4895. Seems to work well.
