338 L
Dear Shooter:
I'm not sure whether the Lapua is a belted mag or not - but if it is it's virtually impossible on the 700 to open up the bolt-face due to the extraction system - it would be better to buy a 700 bolt already factory done. Harry B. |

The 338 lapua does not have a belt. But I think the rim is the same diameter as a belted magnum.

338 Lapua Mag is based on the 416 Rigby case. It has a base diameter of 0.588 inches and length of 3.6 inches. The largest round the Rem 700 is currently chambered for is the 375H&H with a case head diameter of 0.532 with a length of 3.6 inches.

Brownells sells a CZ 550 action that will take a 416 Rigby.

338 lapua
Thanks METE:
I really like the CZ action also. Probably, it is the only one readilly avaliable. Sounds good! The old ZKK 602 was in 416 Rigby also but I think the 550 is the one now for this. This would make a great long distance big game rifle. Thanks METE for the info. Harry B. |

A side by side of the .375 H&H and .338 LM case heads just for fun.
