Putting the finishing touches on the purchase of a Rem 700 ADL in 30.06, and plan to handload some rounds for it.
Question is can I get away with just neck sizing dies or should I use full length sizing dies? I've been told that the neck sizing dies may be all I need, since these work the brass less than FL dies. I've only reloaded for an M1A, which as a semi-auto, needs FL sizing every time due to the stresses placed on the brass by the action. I'll probably get both types, but which one can I least do without? [Edited by echo3mike on 02-16-2001 at 12:55 AM]

dies
i shoot my ammo in many different rifles so i FL size-i think you can back the dies off a turn so you only get the neck sized with standard dies..i've recently got some of the lee collet neck size dies and that is the easiest reloading you'll ever do...no lube..goes through a progressive machine like warm butter..Dick

buy the FL die first. As Mr Holliday pointed out you can back the FL die out until you are just sizing the neck and slightly (.001") bumping the shoulder back.

get the Lee deluxe 3 die set
which has both the collet die for neck sizing, and a regular f.l. die. The collet dies work great, as Dick said you don't even need to lube the cases. The set only costs about $28 from Midway. I have these sets for a couple of different calibers.

I agree on the Lee collet dies - You see a lot of varmint shooters using 'em, and getting groups well under MOA.
