How old is my Marlin 30-30 rifle

I have been passed down a marlin 30-30 lever action rifle, Model 1893, with an octagon barrel, serial # 255950 made by Marlin fire-arm co, New Haven Ct. USA. patent Oct 1887, April 2 1889, Aug 1 1889. The words Special Smokeless Steel on left side by rear sight. I would like to fine out how old it is, and some idea of it worth. It is in good condition

DOM is about 1905, research ONLY closed/sold gun auction sites like gunbroker or auctionarms, to see how much someone's recently been willing to pay for a like gun in like condition.

Remember, unsold/unbid auctions are NOT values - they are someone's idea of an asking price.
