Is this in response to the Wal-Mart worker being trampled?

That's great question.

Unfortunatley you likely would never get the chance to get your self defense handgun out.

The people trampling you would'nt stop trampling you for enough time for you to draw.

But people are killing you through their actions whether by accident or not, they need to stop doing what they are doing to you.

If it means dieing if you do not fire that gun-then I say fire that gun.

Just try to fire along the floor-the sound should get people off you.

If it does'nt,then the people need to be persuaded to stop.

Typically in tramplings (or mob crush injuries) the people in the immediate vicinity of those injured are as helpless as the victims. They're being pushed forward by others who can't tell what's going on.

Yeah, I'd think that you're as likely to make things worse and potentially cause other people to be trampled as well.

Don't do it

This unruly mob was going wild trying to be first to save money on cheap Chinese made Wal Mart underwear. Think how bad it would be if you started capping off rounds.............

after reading that news story, i got to thinking about how you could rescue someone being trampled.

i came up with... (assuming you're right inside the door)
-run as fast as you can and jump on top or into the side of people, in an attempt to knock more people down.
-same as first one, only pushing a shopping cart.
-screaming bomb
-screaming gun
-shoot a couple shots into the ceiling, if you're carrying
-try to force the sliding door closed
-pull fire alarm

and i honestly don't think any of those would work very good. even if you started shooting, the people outside the door might not hear it over the crowd and threw the doors/windows.
and if you knock people down, its just going to pile up and the people on the bottom would end up in the same shape as the trampled guy.
