The TEXAS DEPT. of PUBLIC SAFETY (aka STATE TROOPERS & TEXAS RANGERS) use/carry the SIG SAUER P226 or P229 in .357SIG.

On occasion I still see some of the older guys with the SIG SAUER P220/.45ACP, the weapon the HIGHER CAPACITY SIG's replaced.

So far they have had great succes with the P226 & P229 in the somewhat new .357SIG cartridge.

Florida Highway Patrol

FHP uses Beretta 96Gs in .40 S&W. You can carry anything you want off duty, as long as you can qualify with it.

Glockjeeper, i'm in Owensboro, Ky and also in Richmond, KY off and on. I heard the KSP is having a heck of a time getting S&W to keep their 1066's running. I was informed S&W is making parts for the 10mm just for the KSP right now. I wonder how long it will be until they go to the Glock 22.....

The highway patrol here in winston/salem NC carry beretta 96 40S&W (blued)

The local police have glocks in .40S&W

Im pretty sure charlotte city police (mclynberg county) carry stainless S&W .40's although im not sure of the model. 4006 i think.

In maryland, where i used to live the Anne Arundel county police carried sig 229's in .40 while the maryland state police carry beretta 96 in .40. the tunnel authorities also carry the beretta in 40 stainless.

It seems some of them are changing to sigpro .40's.

I spoke with a NC highway patrolman this morning (i got a speeding ticket, ended up shootin the bull for 30 min) he said they were changing to beretta cougars.

One would think they would get something lighter. But ya know who makes the decisions. not the officers.

For some time now the New Jersey State Police have carried H&K P7M8 9mm pistols. They intend to buy 3,200 Smith & Wesson Model SW99 semiautomatic pistols for $1.3 million, again in 9mm. I gather that they are very happy with the success of the 9mm cartridge.

The Tasmanian State Police use the Glock 17 with external safety. All other State Police Forces use the standard Glock 17.

A recent article in the News and Observer said that the NC State Troopers were going to Baretta 8357 (full size Cougars in .357 SIG).

LA - Sig 220 .45ACP

AR - Glock 21 and Glock 35 (Trooper's Choice)

I grew up in AR and I know it is the laughing stock of the nation but let me tell you there are some mean SOB's in that State from the backwoods and Troopers have been known to justifiably get physical. I know one troop commander in Warren, AR where I grew up. He stated that they transitioned from the S&W 686 to the Sig 229 .40 and did not like the weapon at all. After only about seven years, they went to the Glocks. AR State Troopers carry their weapons in a very nice Black leather Belt and holster rig that has the leather strap that goes through one of the shoulder epalets and attaches to the belt. These leather rigs are made by inmates at the Cummins State Prison farm and they are of incredible quality. Cummins to this day is a horrible place to go to. In the old days, you were whipped with a leather strap on day one and then for every infraction thereafter. It is an actual farm and on any day, there will be hundreds of inmates out in the fields hoeing cotton in strict cadence as you drive by.

My brother has a western-style belt made by the inmates at Cummins that is of exceptional quality like nothing ever offered in a store. My Uncle is over all of the juvenile Prisons in AR and for the record he is over the unit where the two scumbags who did the Jonesboro school massacre are residing. He stated when these two deviants got into prison, they were very humble. Now, both of them scream obscenities at every prison worker and throw waste byproducts from their bodies at all of the staff. He states they are really bad apples and for everyone's comfort, they will be out at age 18.

Sorry for the Cliffie Clayborn ramble but hey it's Saturday night and I don't have a life anymore.

MA Troopers carry .40 S&W in either a Sig 226 or 229. Not Glocks as mentioned above. I heard that they are going to be switching over to Smiths...big suprise eh?

Boston PD carry Glock 19's. Sort of ironic as it is illegal to sell new Glocks in the state(per the A/G's regs) as they are deemed unsafe baby killing junk guns...along with Berettas, HK's, Rugers, Kimbers Colts etc...all unsafe junk guns....
