Your gun cleaners, what do you use
Im just wondering what everyone is using. I use Gunslick Ultra-Klenz for my main cleaner, then every so often I run Gunslick Copper-Klenz down the barrel.

G 96 gun cleaner(as well as hoppes, but mostly G96 right now). It's cheap, and is a 3 in 1(Cleans, lubricates and prevents rust), as well as it smells nice. Haven't had any rust issues with it, and because it's in an aerosol can, it sprays on quickly.

Montana Extreme bore cleaner, copper killer, and conditioner. Best I've used and fastest plus it's safe on metals. Strong smell, use outside or in a ventilated garage etc.

My "go to" gun oil is G-96, there's no substitute for this oil. And as far as bore solvents go "Bore Tech" Eliminator is the best fouling solvent I have tried, and there's more than a dozen bore solvents in the cleaning cabinet in the laboratory. Yes I've got the Barnes, Shooter's Choice, Gunslick Foaming bore cleaner, Smith & Wesson bore gel, Butch's Bore shine, Hoppes,,,,,,,, yadda yadda.........

I'm with Hooligan. The Boretech Eliminator has made my other stuff into secondary cleaners. Every now and then, if the barrel isn't too dirty, I'll patch it a few times with Butch's or Shooter's Choice. My logic there, right or wrong, is that I want the powder fouling out of there, but I don't want all of the copper out. It seems that if I take all the copper out, I have to shoot a rifle (some of them anyway) more than a few times to get them to 'settle down' and shoot their best. There is no scientific proof behind that, but that is the way it seems.

A modified version of Ed's Red using John Deere Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard ATF, MEK, kerosene, mineral spirits, toluene or xylene, some Lube Control LC-20, and about 1.5 oz. of Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer per quart (I have a bunch of it on-hand and it does seem to help with lubricity).
The only drawback is that this mixture doesn't have a flight number associated with it

I use PB penetrating oil to clean. I use it at work as an auto mechanic and found it works great cleaning guns. Lots cheaper too. I rinse metal with brake cleaner and plastic with isopropyl. I lube with Mobile 1. Another tech gave me a spare quart of 5W20 so I'm set for gun oil for a good long time.

+1 on Ed's Red.
Handguns, rifle bolts/actions. Soak, brush, rinse, dry. Handgun barrels get run thru with 0000 steel wool wrapped around a brush (shoot mostly lead) after. Rifle barrels get a combo RB 17 (alos biodegradable) and JB cleaner. Sometimes I plug the barrel(s) and soak it with Ed's Red....not too practical with gas guns though. Crash box, I find Ed's Red takes time to "dry"/get the excess off. Does the Lucas Oil Stabilizer make it more so? |

Clenzoil and Breakfree CLP. Never felt the need to look for anything better. I've used these two products for quite a few years. Only one thing that disappoints. I wish Clenzoil came in a bigger size bottle in my Neck of the Woods. (8oz. only)

I'm pretty sure I'm going to open a can of worms here when I say this...
I use WD40 and Hoppe's solvent. Mike
