Hydraulic Dings

I've just lately started reloading 30-06 for a Garand. I decapped some cases last night and didn't meter my lube as I should have. I ended up with a few cases with dings on the shoulders.

Are these OK to shoot? I know the pressure will ramp up a little, but I'm only at about 95% of max with the powder load.

As long as they are safe loads, they are OK to shoot. The dings will iron out when you fire them. My dad used to use STP on his fingers to lube cases as he sized them. He always had dents and never worried about it (he never tumbled his brass either, he had these green/brown reloads that would put 3 shots in the same hole).

Try to not get any lube on the case shoulder.

Switching to a spray or water based lube helps with this. Oil based lubes such as the RCBS case pad lube (which I use) are problematic about creating dents if you're not careful with lube quantity.

Got tired of fussing with the right amount of lube from a pad. Swithched to a spray lube and have had no problems at all. Good shooting

Poodleshooter's got it.............now the RCBS is a good lube when you get the lube all rubbed into the pad good plus a brush with just a small amount in the neck really does the job..............in fact you can lube just 1 out or 3 or 4 cases if that one that is lubed is a lil heavy on the lube.................I use the Lyman spray sometimes it is good but not quite as good a friction reducer as the RCBS lube..................another drawback of the lube pad is getting crud on it................makes it impossible to clean.

STP or spray, huh? Guess I have to stop being medieval.

I did shoot those dings out, like TrophyShop said.

That Garand is as expensive and complicated as bringing a new baby home....

Try the Dillon spray lube!!

Like everything else from Dillon, it is absolutely superb!!
