Rusty Old Shotgun
No, I do not need to remove rust from one of my guns, I actually want a beat up, crappy looking, rusty shotgun! I want a project gun, preferably one that needs stock and metal refinishing. I'm sure plenty of you have done a project gun at some point, the question is: Where did you get your shotgun? Were you just patient, hitting all the estate sales and gun shows? Or did you find a website that deals in low end, rusty, crappy shotguns?
Just looking for ideas, Thanks. |

I haven't done a project gun in a long time...but if I wanted one, I'd go to the local gunshows...or to a local used gun shop ( both of them will have some project guns )...in my area.

Some sites have a gunsmith special section. Might be worth looking there.

Most of the old beat up, rusty, crappy shotguns you find you cant get wood for unless you make it yourself.

I try to visit older gunshops, ILO newer EBR-only stores, and either look in all the dark/dusty corners, or ask if they have any handyman/gunsmith "specials" that need some work.

Stop at any gunshop and ask what they have in the back.
I've come up with a couple of "beaters" at give away prices that worked fine as project guns and the shop owner was glad to get rid of them. |

Watch out for non functioning guns. My friend got an oddball single shot and while fixing the extractor a bolt fell out of the gun. The hole it came from had no threads left and the gun would no longer work.
But I've seen old H&R shotguns for $30-$40 that just need cleaned and operate like a new gun. |

good idea. it is important to have someone look at it(besides man selling it) that can help you fix it or tell you how to if you don't know how and give you the go-ahead that it is a safe firearm. they can be dangerous depending on the age or faults.

Note the seller on...
.....this auction and save it. He frequently has shotguns that need work.

Hit the pawn shops and gun shops after hunting season and ask. Or look in the last spaces on the gun rack thats furthest in the back of the shop. I have six or eight single shot 12 and 20ga guns and .410 and 12ga bolt actions laying around that I saved and restored and I don't think I paid over $40 for any of them. Around where I live cut down single shots used to be good sellers, old hunting guns turned into short defense guns. They were pretty popular behind the counters of businesses in my area.
