What Are Ruger SR1911s Going For In Your Local Shops?
I stopped by a local shop today and they had just received a Ruger 1911. The guy behind the counter took it out to show it to me and I noticed the price at $829. Before Christmas they had them for $699 in this same shop. Has Ruger raised the price or has this shop just raised prices on their own? I didn't think people were panic buying 1911s enough to raise the price that much.

I've only seen one recently and it was $750.
I walked on by. If it had been one of the newer stainless Commanders...that might have turned out differently. |

The one that I saw at a small, local shop, was asking retail, $829 since they are hard to get. No thanks!

sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com has them for $719 shipped currently for those looking. Haven't seen any in the LGSs lately.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago at Sportsman's Warehouse for $699.
They had one on display and 4 more in stock. The one on display had been there 3 or 4 days. When I went back a day or so later, they were all gone. Pretty surprising they were in stock as long as they were.

Well, they will never get MSRP out of me, so, I will pass. That's pretty close to the price of a Colt I looked at the other day.

This gouging is what you get when distributors allocate guns. People think that ordering a gun is a first-come, first-serve affair, but the new trend is favoritism.
Under "allocation", each salesman is given x number of SR1911's, and he calls up his best customers first. Once the Special People have all the SR's they want, the salesman calls the little guy. At least, in theory. Some dealers are still waiting for that call on the SR1911 a year or two after its introduction. Now, most of Ruger's handguns are allocated, so if you want to sell one you have the privilege of getting on a waiting list until Doomsday. This works to put small gunshops - who might very well like to save you some money on this gun - out of business. Last edited by Mr. Whimsy; February 3, 2013 at 02:28 PM. |

If any of my local shops get one I'll let you know what they ask for it.
None of them have seen their 1st one yet...

None around here and I will not bite unless less than 700.00. When they first came out they were in the 500-600 range and then the Ruger shortage came up! Not sure about this, but although I like and have several Rugers, this whole disaster of production from Ruger has kind of soured my taste on the weapon. Someone should be fired over this. I don't understand why they could not ramp up production, hire a few more people, go onto 2nd and 3rd shifts. Come on, this is not the middle ages, we have modern equipment and computers and there is no excuse except for maybe a natural disaster that took out the factory.
There are plenty of others with as good or better quality and I don't have to play the Mickey Mouse game of trying to find one. Sorry Ruger, you lost. |

It's not just the 1911s. I rarely see any new Ruger products at any shop I frequent. Even then it's just SA revolvers. This SR1911 was a fluke I guess.

Very few appear to have made it out to Oregon, and they have been asking high prices for them. I've seen $850, $800, and the last one was $750.
Still too high considering what some places are selling them for. One guy was asking $900 for a used one on a local list. |

$750 at the gun show.
I'm not a 1911 guy but the SR1911 felt very nice. |

They are non-existent in gun shops around here, but I see them at almost every gun show I go too. They are usually priced at $699 or $749.

in the 90's a colt out of the box pretty much sucked, mostly due to feeding issues, so I never got one. Now, like you said, there are a lot of them out there.
Are they dependable out of the box and can you consistently hit a pie plate at 30' or less (defensive situations)? |
