Do you realize that arguments about what kind of sword was most effective were made in the same way there are arguments about which cartridge is most effective--and the sword arguments are still going on. To cover all the bases, some swords had built in pistols during the flintlock era.

Yup I know what you mean, heck go over to a well established sword community like swordforum.com and you'll see the same exact thing as the caliber wars and arm chair commandoes as everwhere. As for my last comment I mean no offense to the people above. And something for all sword lovers( I love swords and own many so i'm in here too) who say that there the end all beat all weapon, think for moment why the sword was phased out of the modern army's. shhh it has something to do with gunpowder but I can't put my finger on it.

I still can't get over the fact that there are people with sharp swords intentionally swinging them at each other and stopping "just short" of hitting each other...
Hey , I love swords. I fence epee, have a nice rapier and a couple other pieces. I even have a "utilitarian" Indian Kuhkri in the trunk of my car (works as a hatchet, spade and other tools as needed. Finally I always carry a good lockblade on me; for a year it has been a German Eickhorn folding knife. That said I will be meeting any intruders in my home with either my Remington 870 12 gauge or my 10mm 1911. I know all about the distances that can be coverred with an edged weapon at close quarters, fence against a world class athlete if you want to see distance coverred with a sword QUICKLY. I still would rather have a gun!

i'd say a good plunge of a sword into someone would do FAR more damage than any .380, 9mm, .40, .45 ect ect

Do you think you would invite less attention if you utlizied a war hammer or tomahawk in self defense? I think I'll look into CCW'ing a Tomahawk.......

sword?
A sword? Now that's an idea. Use a sword on an intruder. When the cops arrive, tell them we "disarmed" the guy. In court the intruder wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Blackwater,
You're saying we ought to cut this off before it gets out of control?

Doesn't sound like the intruder really got an arm's length transaction. Any way you slice it, this discussion should be severed.

does anyone throw hawks? I could pick up my .45 or scattergun when i hear a break in but then where's the fun? The guy wouldn't have a chance; if the double didn't splatter him, the 14 rds of .45 on follow up wouldn't be very sporting. Plus, using the hawk is quiet and wont wake everybody up. I think I'll start sleeping in my war paint to add to the effect.

Very punny, guys. But to, um.... cut to the chase, this started out a little on the wild side to begin with, and any way you slice it, it just ain't what you'd call... cutting edge tactics .
Closed.
