No one mention 308 VEPR, Saiga or Zastava M77 built on most reliable AK/RPK?

I would love a Vepr, just so hard to find. I actually prefer AK type to any, as that is what I am used to and know. The saiga in my opinion has too thin of a receiver and, maybe the Vepr with its rpk receiver and trunnion might be stronger. Mags for the Vepr and saiga are also hard to get and pricey, mainly I am concerned about robustness and reliability, with accuracy and weight not for behind for priorities.

I haven't seen anyone mention the FNAR either. These have always intrigued me but I have not fired one.

I suspect if you find the FAL unwieldy and heavy that you would feel the same way about the CETME. I would definitely hold one.

I just built a LR-308 type on Aero M5 receivers and would estimate that the total cost to completion was very modest, maybe $1000 or less. Only time will tell how reliable it will be, but it's definitely very accurate and only mildly unpleasant when shooting off a bipod. I haven't weighed it, but with an 18" bbl and optic, it feels like a good 10-12 lbs. That's pretty heavy if you ask me.

My Vepr 308 with converted M14 mag and modified Saiga handguard..

Picture of converter M14 mag vs factory Vepr mag

A converted Zastava 308 M77 also with converted M14 mag. Zastava still can be have under $600. I got my Vepr under $600 as well.

I used an Aero lower on a recent 6.5 Creedmoor build and had all kinds of problems with it lining up with anyone's upper and the front pivot pin does not clear the side of the tang--did you have any issues with yours (or did you use Aero for both upper and lower)? sorry to divert from OP topic.
