Where to find a decent SKS?
Ive been thinking about adding a SKS to my little collection. Who sells decent SKS's that don't look like they have been dragged down the street?

Try the Survivor SKS forums they might be able to point you in the right direction. Keep your eye on the pawn shops, you might be able to find one there for a decent price. Be aware the days of the sub $100 SKS are over. I paid $340 for my Yugoslav last year and they've gone through the roof. Today's gun show, cheapest SKS I saw (beat down Chinese) was $400. Saw one Yugo priced at $595 and all the rest were $700+ Not sure if anyone is still importing these rifles or if the stockpiles have dried up.

Was at a local show this weekend and saw several SKS's in the $450-$500 range. Trouble is finding the ammo. I was looking for a para model myself, haven't seen any of them for a while.

Harry Beckwith's Gun Shop
Here in Micanopy, Florida (South of Gainesville) I have seen them as low as $300. Check local gun shops or pawn shops. Also check Craigslist or classifieds.

You are aware of Gunbroker? Even though you might be very familiar, it surprised me to hear last week from a TN gun shop owner that a huge number of people are not aware of it. A few days ago, GB had multiple pages of SKS, and many were listed at prices I saw in March 2008, when my search began. $325-375 last week for seller's list prices on numerous rifles/bid prices in early 2013 is a very good value. Some of these have no "reserve". After the December '12 panic first hit, the selection of SKS pages on GB increased by a large fraction. |

I do belong to Gunbroker and have for several years. I have made several purchases over the years but with all the craziness going on, not many deals on GB. High reserves and crazy Buy Now prices.
