Matching bullet to barrel.

I'm wondering what the appropriate diameter is suppose to be for a jacketed bullet to match a barrel. I have a .45 ACP 1911 that slugs at .450, and didn't know if it is ok to shoot the hornady XTP bullets that are .451?

As believe the general rule for plain lead cast bullets are you suppose to bump up .001 or .002 past the slug dia. Is this the same for jacketed bullets?

.451" is fine for jacketed and .452" is fine for lead bullets in .45acp.

When you measure your slug after slugging your barrel make sure you use a micrometer and not your calipers. The caliper measurements can be off enough to influence your choice of bullet diameters.

All we need do with bullets is avoid being too small. "Expert" opinions aside, a thou larger than normal insures they will not be too small and that's as large as they need be for any purpose. Thus, .451" - .452" is perfect for both jacketed and cast in a normal .45 barrel. If a barrel is slopply made God alone knows what might be needed.
