Earplugs

Does anyone have recommendations for earplugs that do not fully enter the ear canal yet still provide a decent dB reduction (required because of medical reason)?

I'm looking for something to have under earmuffs for the occasional trip to an indoor range.

Soft foam ones do very well, but there's a trick to using them.
They need to be rolled very thin so they do fully enter the ear canal.
Just stuffing them in there doesn't work nearly as good.
There's also the tapered ones with the little fins or sections that plug up ears well.

You might be able to use the custom molded ones if they didn't extend too far in.
