NC: Legislation SB S90 to change CCL process from “SHALL ISSUE” to “MAY ISSUE”
Please contact your reps about this one. You might have a cool sheriff now, but imagine what happens when you get a bad one elected and he decided no CCLs unless you're one of his cronies

As a political independent who doesn't subscribe to superstition or believe in the supernatural, I can't help but wonder what "good moral character" might mean and what roles, say, personal politics, personal style or religion might play in all this.
Say an applicant's style were "urban gangsta." Or maybe an applicant wore religious attire that's obviously non-Christian. What if the applicant were wearing a shirt with a pro-LGBT message on it? Does the guy with a MAGA hat and a Gadsden shirt get treated the same as the guy with a Che Guevara shirt? Are these (somehow) bellwethers of "moral character"? "Moral character" has no place in the legal code.

I support my local sheriff, but the sheriff's association is not our friend. It's a shame that so many people donate money to them thinking that they are doing a good thing. Quote:

Now, the triangle area is changing because of transplants. It’s a running joke in Cary that no one is actually originally “from Cary.” Lots of nice folks, but they move here for jobs, lower taxes, affordable (well, was) real estate, and lower cost of living.... and proceed to say “well back home the town took care of (fill in blank) why can’t they do it here?” The answer... We don’t want to pay 15k a year in the property taxes needed to pay for those services.

Lately, there has been a lot of push for anti-gun. We've been fighting a defensive battle for many years now. Thankfully we have GRNC in this state to watchdog, let us know and lobby the reps. If you guys aren't supporting GRNC, please do. They are a really great RKBA advocate for us in NC (an example of what the NRA should be at the national level) and things would likely be worse if not for them. (I'm not affiliated with GRNC, just a thankful supporter.) https://www.grnc.org/

NC vs NJ?
Sad that these elected officials are allowed to change their way of thinking (lying) once elected to office.
Some states have evoked the right to have recall elections and perhaps this would keep these liars on the straight and narrow. At present they can say anything they want and after elected do whatever THEY want without any repercussions.

So I don't get this. Why are the Republicans in the state pushing for this? I could understand if the state had gotten a Democrat-controlled legislature and governor, but the GOP? The New York state GOP I could understand, but North Carolina...!?

Like other states, North Carolina has had in influx of people from other states.
Charlotte, Raleigh and Cary have a lot of voting clout. Duke and UNC also have a diverse student body. Just like other states, the rural areas are more traditional and cities have become much more liberal - and they have the votes.

Gov. Norton and his Comrades want to do the same here in Virginia. They also want to copy the worst gun control laws from other states. He has called our General Assembly back to Richmond this week to try to ram his will down our throats.
