Scope Recommendations

Bought a Daniel Defense V9lw a month or two ago. I've had fun with it in an indoor range out to only about 30 yards with a really cheap red dot. But now that summer is well underway, I'm looking to shoot more outside at longer distances.

Scope Purpose:
1. Target shooting out to about 500 yards.
2. Possibly some prairie dog/coyote hunting in the future.

Price:
Looking to stay under $400 or so.

Would I want a BDC reticle? Mil-dot reticle? What brands should I lean toward or stay away from? Do I need parallax adjustment? What magnification will be necessary? I am thinking 4-16 or somewhere in there. Any advice would be helpful.

Burris MTAC 1.5-6x42

May not have the top end magnification you are looking for, but with 500 as your max distance, you are good for my "1x power for every 100 yards for easy aiming" rule of thumb.

Vortex Diamondback 2-8x -- Mine has adjustable objective on the side and duplex reticle but I do think I really need it for my shooting (paper punching at 50 and 100 yards). Bright and clear. Eye relief is on the long side - maybe 4".
I think it is available with mil-dot.

On the less expensive side a Weaver 1-3x is very good, too. It is light and true 1x. I have one on a 5.45x39 which is normally set at 1x.

Or this

They are basically the same scope. It comes down to mil-dots or having a custom dial made specifically for your load.
