Favorite C&R Part II

I didn't want to hijack TX Hunter's thread, but it made me wonder.
How many C&R license holders collect true Curio and Relic firearms. Old, antique, rare, classic arms? Or how many, like me, buy up all the Milsurp "shooters" we can find? Don't worry about their collectability and value, but just shoot the heck out of them for fun.

I'm in your camp. It's just the feel of the old iron and how well they shoot. For the $$$ they can't be beat! And for $30, having the brown truck of love bring them to the door is "priceless".

I used to buy a bunch of milsurps but now I use my C&R to buy pre-mil Savage 99's and other old commercial hunting rifles and shotguns.

I used mine for both. Number wise it was milsurps, but dollars spent it was more collectible.
That being said, I shot all but two of them.

just a question kind of related. Since i'm sure most people collect more then what is on the C&R list. Are you able to use your C&R license when buying NON C&R guns just for the sake of easing the paperwork and background check?

No, but some places like Midway USA, and Graff and sons give you a dealer discount on ammo and accessories.
Some of the on-line ammo dealers also. You just have to ask, and send them a fax or copy of your FFL if they do.

thanks, i'm still waiting for mine to arrive. It seems like it'd be accepted as a background check but that's probably too easy for the government

It can be old, valuable AND shootable!

I buy old milsurps because they're fun and (mostly) cheap. I buy the other old stuff because they're fun. I just can't buy nearly as many of them because they're not cheap.

My favorite milsurp!

I like hunting down beaters that need some love...
Like this 1940 High Standard model "B"

I'm actually planning on Gold-Plating it...as the original finish is shot and it has a lot of scratches.

Even though the High Standard HD Military is a C&R, I've never considered this one to be.
It was my grandfather's. I'm 63 years old, and he gave it to me when I was in my teens.
Still a great shooter today!

A difference without a distinction, as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, if the firearm is old enough, you don't need any license to buy it.

Early S&W, Colts, Winchesters, Savag 99s. etc VS Mosin nagants, Tokarevs, CZ 82, Yugo Mausers and SKS, etc.

Classic antique firearms VS Military surplus shooters.

That is what I meant in the OP.

Thanks for taking this a step further,
I do collect, but my interest are clearly the Military Bolt Action Rifles.
I am pasionate about them.
I have a distant goal to own a 1903 A3 Springifeld Rifle.
It will take quite a bit of saving to aquire that one.

While I still want for a few milsurps, lately my C&R has been used for pre-WWII DA Colt and S&W revolvers as well as older Winchester lever actions.
