Refinishing a stock.

I am now stripping an old SKS stock. I plan on sanding the dings out as much as is feasible then applying some lind of clear finish. Never don a gun stock before but have done plenty of floors, baseboards and cabinets. I'm planning on using Man'O'War brand polyurethane. Any input? Does this sound reasonable or not? Any input will be appreciated.
