Fixing 686 gross endshake, cost of

I have a 686-5 and the Kuhnhausen book and video. My problem is the cylinder is in contact with the barrel. The is the source of binding I have had. I also can see a slight curvature of the barrel face, with high points at the top and bottom.

There's no closed yoke endplay. So I'll need to check yoke alignment with the special tool and if not the problem, then stretch the yoke barrel, ream inside, and true the face.

So I would need a bunch of $24 tools from Brownell's; they even have a stretcher. Is it worth it or can I get this done by my hometown smith for a lot less cost? It's used, not under warranty, so the factory would be slow, expensive, and mysterious.

Or shall I go off the deep end and get the tools, leading to a buying spree for revolvers to smith with them?

I would talk to my local smith first and get a price on the work. If he can't do it you might contact Cylinder and Slide then compare the cost of them doing it correctly to the cost of the tooling. George
