Home built M1 Carbine 10/22

My dad built this for me. It is a standard Ruger 10/22 stock fitted with a M1 carbine handguard, flash hider, and tech sights.

He worked the stock down around the handguard so it is nicely fitted and used a piece of micarta for the portion between the handguard and stock next to the bolt. He took all of the original finish off of the stock, put some Birchwood-Casey Walnut stain on the stock and handguard, sanded, and finished it up with 3 coats of Minwax satin spray finish.

He also used JB Weld to fit 2 standard ruger 10 shot mags together for a more military M1 look.

I love this little guy!

I hate to be the guy to pee all over someone elses parade but you do know there are M1 carbine stocks available for the 10/22 already right?

don't get me wrong, the tech sights and handguard do give of the M1 carbine vibe but the 10/22 stock just doesn't have the same profile and the ruger stock ring doesn'tfit around the hand guard to lock it in place so it's a little less convincing of a conversion. the JB weld on 10 rounders is a good idea though, shows quite a bit of ingenuity on your part.

I'm lazy though, I'd rather just buy the $100 conversion stock and tube of plastic weld and call it a day.

Nice setup.

But what really makes it is your father building it for you.

A keeper.

Very nice indeed. Your Dad did a nice job. Anybody can drop some $$ for an off the shelf part. Having your Dad do the build is priceless, in my opinion.

I love the my dad made it part as well. My dad's a gun smith/ black smith and he's made several guns for me. I cherish them all. Plus, one of a kind is always cool in my book. Anyone can buy something everyone else has.

Enjoy Boomer

PS. I'm a big 10/22 guy. Always happy to see a custom Ruger.

Any gun that a dad helps build for his son is priceless. Keep it, enjoy it. It looks great!

When I saw the thread title, I was thinking, Oh, the guy bought one of those Sarco Carbine stocks, but then I see the pics and read the description, and think, "Wow, a little imagination and skilled work goes a long way." Looks nice. I'd still like to see one of those Sarco Carbine stocks . . .

I'd hate to pee on anybody that's peeing on somebodies parade, but buying something and bolting it on, no matter how much more physically accurate, doesn't hold a candle to "my dad made this for me".

Looks nice. If you could find some of the Ruger BX-25 mags it would look like an M1 carbine with a 30 round mag.

Very nice looking rifle. Ask your dad if he would like to adopt a 21 year old

That is one sweet looking 10/22. Congratulations! You're very lucky to have such a great dad who is capable of doing this for you.
