Gun Rights for Legal Immigrant
I have been corresponding with a guy from South Africa who may relocate to the USA. He asked me about my state of North Carolina, gun laws among other things. As near as I can see online, a legal resident alien has nearly the same gun rights as a citizen. I did see that a ccw permit requires being a citizen. Has anyone else here checked out NC law and have a different interpretation? Anyone up on federal law?

AFAIK under federal law, a legal permanent resident has nearly the same rights as a citizen, although he or she must live in the USA for 90 days before purchasing a firearm.
However, if one is living in the USA on a temporary visa, the rules are quite different. From the ATF FAQ... http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/noni...nt-aliens.html Quote:
