I purchased a Mossberg 500 a few years ago at a gunshow for house defense; it came with 18" and 28" barrels, both unrifled and no owners guide.
Since I'm a newbie, this may be a dumb question, but can slugs be fired fired through one or both of these barrels or am I limited to shot?
Thanks in advance.

Unless that longer bbl is choked full or tighter, slugs will work with either safely. Open chokes usually do better.

Lots of old threads about slugs, 500, short bbls etc...

ditto to what Dave said also my 500 like Rottweil 2 3/4 1oz. 12/70 slugs the best, they are cheap in my part of the country(around $3 a box). Give them a try you may like them also.
