Remington 51 UMC 380 caliber
I have just obtained from my father's estate and know nothing about the gun.
Serial Number is PA24382 and has Remington UMC on the grip. I would like to know date of manufacture and general information, and also of course it's potential value. It does have one clip. Thanks Caliber is 380ACP and the condition is good. Fires well. Last edited by jwb45; April 20, 2011 at 08:28 AM. Reason: Need information |

One of the finest gun designs I've ever owned. It's action is delayed blowback of the momentum block type. This reduces apparent recoil. It was also made in 32acp.Although a fine gun and not too many around it never got to the point of being a collector's piece so the value wasn't very high .There is a trick to removing the grips -done wrong and you break the grips !! They even made a prototype in 45acp for a military pistol.

RE about condition
I think it is in good condition. I added pics to the original post.
Thanks for the comments. |

Although I'm not an expert, I've seen them selling for around $275-$350 in condition similar to your gun.
The M51 definitely has a following. IMHO it's one of the neatest vintage .380s out there, surpassed only by the J.P. Sauer & Sohn 38H. I would recommend reposting this in the "Curio & Relic" subforum. Several regular visitors there are vintage small-caliber pistol enthusiasts. FWIW the M51 actually has a rather intricate design; although it appears externally and functionally similar to the striker-fired Browning FN Model 1910 and 1922, the M51 actually uses an internal hammer.
