AR-15 Dust cover removal???
Hi all, so i have heard a couple different ways to remove a dust cover to put on a new one. A little clarification please???
I have tried to remove the "C" clip on the barrel side of the rod with little success. I have also heard that you need to remove the delta ring/barrel components, but have no idea how to. Can someone elaborate on which is better, and how to perform the procedure?? Links to good web sites are good as well. Help me out people, need to get this cover installed!!!!

It's really pretty easy.
Get a set of needle nosed pliers. Rotate the C clip so that the opening is on top or on bottom. Open the needle nose pliers enough so you're pusing on both sides of the C Clip. Slowly push the c-clip off of the dust cover rod. BE SURE TO COVER THE C-CLIP with your off hand so you don't fling it into the dark crevaces of the room. |

Or better yet, get an actual pair of snap ring pliers. Most auto parts stores have them.

A tip, if you have a small piece of rubberized magnet like commonly used for those magnetic business cards, tape a small piece on the pliers so it it close to the clip being gripped. When the clip is removed it will stick to the magnet, even if the plier grip is released. These magnetic business cards are also great for keeping track of small parts (if they are ferrous) and keeps them in one place.
