S&W .357 Snub Load ???

Looking for a good load for a S&W model 60 2 1/8 inch barrel using
a 180gr cast or jacketed bullet to get the most velocity.
Would 2400 be pretty good ? It is listed in the old Speer # 8 manual
as being good in shorter barrels, but with bullets that are a little lighter
in weight.

Thanks

I have good results with AA#9 for 180gr cast and jacked in my 2.75" Ruger Sec Six.

Any idea what velocity you're churning up ?

Thanks

recoil alert

First confirm your bullet choice will fit the cylinder's chamber length when appropriately crimped.

The Remington conventional 180g JHP is an excellent bullet in that weight range.

Use modern Accurate or Alliant data; AA9 and 2400 are both fine choices.

No, but they shoot good.

Thanks for all the answers and I keep meaning to try those Remington 180's.
Where's a good place to find them and do you like them better than the XTP ?

Thanks

can't help with "where"

But actual experience suggests the 180g R-P conventional JHP knocks deer over; is too much for people; not enough for (wise) bear-hunting or defense.

The XTP might be more "accurate", and is of sufficient construction for bear (but still too small).

Crazy question: How long do you expect your M60 to last?

I've only shot about 10 in the S&W model 60-They're mostly for carry
in that size frame gun. I save the 180's for the bigger frame Ruger
and S&W models.
I usually carry one of my .41 Magnums or the Ruger .45 L. Colt if I'm
out in the woods where there are black bear & other creatures.
Appreciate the tips.

Crazy thought

Try a R-P 125g JHP over 5.0g W231 in 38 cases in that M60.
Just for fun....

I have two GP100s and one 357 Redhawk; there is more than '180g power' available (like a well-driven 187g Cast Performance; yee haw!).

If your M60 is a 357, try the 140 grain Speer original HP over 9.0 of SR4756. This is NOT in the book, but will do the job and not have a great fireball flash at night. The same bullet over 6.0 of Unique will give you a lighter practice load. If you have the original M60 stainless Chief's Special 38, use a 150 grain cast SWC over 5.0 of Unique or SR4756; this should shoot pretty close to point of aim with the issue sights.
