Production year for Webley WG revolver?

Various internet sources, such as Wikipedia, list approximate production years for the Webley Mark I through Mark VI, and some other models. In addition, Wikepedia says that that WG commercial model was produced from 1885 into the early 1900s. Is there any way of knowing for sure whether a WG is a legal antique (shipped prior to 1899)?

Contacting the London and Birmingham Proof houses might get you the date markings from the late 1800s but IIRC proof dates were not added on British Proofs until the 1920s.

Wikipedia isn't a reliable source of info. Anybody can post anything they want there.
Read this. Isn't exactly complete though.
