Revolver Deer Time

Taken at 70 yards a day after Christmas with my own hand-loads, 265 gr FTX bullet. Shot from a kneeling position using a bipod rest. Ruger Redhawk in .44 mag, I was a "mover" to help move deer in this area and a shot presented itself. The other two deer were taken with .450BM.

Nice! I’ve got an 8 3/8” Smith 629-3 that I wanted for such a task, but haven’t taken the shot with it, yet.

I grew up in North Central Illinois, did a lot of casual handgun shooting while hiking around the woods. Seems we always were always trying to hit targets at longer distance for fun, things like cans, bottles, and other junk we would find. Living in Michigan now, I shoot handgun at a range I belong to. The pistol berm is approx 60 yards, usually put out gallon water jugs to plink at.

a good hit with stock sights at 70 yards is damn good.

When I was a lot younger I loved shooting at paper plates at 100 yds with my 6" model 57. When I still had eagle eyes I could hit it about 75% of the time. Last time I tried this was three years ago shooting at a 2'x2' box and hit it once out of a dozen shots. I sure miss my eyesight and steady hand.

Nice. I too love to handgun hunt. I typically do it from a stand though. Was able to get 2 this season. Nothing to brag about but meat in the freezer was needed since I’ve been out since August lol. I’m about to start hog hunting down in Florida this year. Hopefully I can put a decent sow in the freezer this year.

Well JetGuy, I'm 56 and my vision is not as good anymore either, I get a shot in the right eye every 8 weeks for a pressure condition. I compensate by using the left eye if I need to, or use a bipod rest and kneeling position. Offhand shooting at half the "deer shot" distance I'm good, further out I'll use something to "steady" myself..

I’ve shot a few deer with handguns. My farthest shot was about 40yds. I only shoot stock iron sights on all my handguns. Most of mine were shot with Ruger SBH 44mg. A few with S&W m25-5 45Colt and one with Colt Gold Cup 45acp. I have no doubt at hitting a deer at 100yds but keep my shots to 50yds. At that range I know exactly where bullet is going to hit.
