Going the other way - Full stock on Henry Mares Leg

I bought a .357 Henry Mares Leg but hated shooting it (I like to hit what I'm aiming at). So I ordered a Big Boy stock from Henry and they shipped it to Canada easypeasy.

It is a little over 31" OAL and makes my 1895GS and even my IMI Timberwolf pump feel like big rifles.............

It shoots to POA at 25 yards with fullhouse 158gr JSPs with the buckhorns set on the 2nd to lowest ladder step.

I have a single point sling attached to the saddlering.

A great little walking around carbine.

I will get the chrony out next time to see how fast it shoots.

Nice. And here in the US that'd be illegal without transitions via hollow circles.

Henry's confirmed that I was out of the USA before completing the sale.......

But anyway, that's a sweet setup there. I would assume much more comfortable to shoot. We're it me, I would have went 44 mag but still very cool.

Hery Geologist,

I also had to switch to Imagur.
Did a post and had photos as big as yours show up.
Made me feel like a dummy, as all attempts to reduce the size of the original failed.

So, I started experimenting in the test section of this board by doing practice posts.
On the Imagur site, I found that if I clicked the 'large thumbnail' setting on the bottom right of my selected image from my Imagur photos
that it appeared in my test message as a photo a normal, sane person might post.

I went back and edited my post and just swapped the photos out.

You now know the entire extent of my photo hosting website knowledge!

Now that's a brush gun. I like it. I never understood the appeal of the "Mares Leg" gun. I have read that even Steve McQueen didn't like the one he used in the show.

I can see why. Shoving those 45-70 rds in that cut down Win '92 chambered for 44-40 must have been a real pain.

Yep those 45-70s were for show. I guess most didn't know any better back then. Could imagine shooting that loaded with 45-70 rounds?

Canada will let you put a full buttstock on a Mare's Leg...., thus creating what the US considers a short barreled rifle???????

As long as the rifle or shotgun is manufactured that way, the barrel length does not enter into the picture.

That's why we have so many short shotguns and non semiauto carbines.

Now handguns and AR rifles are very tightly controlled and no CCW unless you are well connected politically or are a criminal.........

That's really cool. It looks soooooooo handy. What does it weigh?

In the US, it's be a $200 tax stamp, whatever permanent engraving would cost, and a year wait for paperwork to clear.

Now that is neat! Makes a lot more sense to me than lugging around, and trying to accurately aim and manipulate, a giant lever action "pistol".

I legally converted this Mares Leg in 45 Colt to a SBR along with a few other mods. These included drilling & tapping the receiver for a peep sight, swapping the lever, adding a mount for a red dot optic and replacing the stocks with figured walnut replacements from Henry. These were intended for a carbine model so took a few hours of fitting but turned out really nice and goes well with my other lever action SBRs.

It's posts like this that make me want to risk dying before the stamp comes back.
Have a .45 Colt Henry ML here that's been begging for a longer stock for two years.

Might just go for it & send the check in.
That little carbine looks soooooo right!
